On October 10, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted its most recent Express Entry draw. It showcased significant developments in the Canadian immigration landscape.

The draw marked a momentous occasion for 3,725 Express Entry candidates. These candidates received Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for various immigration programs. To qualify for this invitation, candidates needed to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 500.

Furthermore, the period leading up to this draw was particularly active. IRCC hosted five Express Entry draws within a span of nine days from September 19 to September 28. However, October 10th’s draw represents a notable shift. It was the first issuance of ITAs by the immigration department in over a week, spanning a 12-day gap.

Additionally, Express Entry serves as the application management framework for three key economic immigration programs. These include the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

As of June this year, Express Entry draws include two distinct types. The Traditional Express Entry draw is a thorough evaluation of human capital factors which determines candidates’ CRS scores. Work experience, professional fields, language proficiency, education, and age. Those surpassing the CRS cut-off score for a particular draw are eligible to receive an ITA during that standard draw.

However, starting on June 28, 2023, IRCC introduced the category-based Express Entry draws. The aim is to cater to Canada’s specific labor market and social challenges. These category-based draws, prioritize candidates with specific professional and demographic attributes that can contribute to addressing these challenges.

Moreover, this year, IRCC has made it a top priority to attract proficient French speakers with recent work experience. This work experience is specific to Healthcare, STEM professions, Trades, Transport, Agriculture, and Agri-food.

In conclusion, the country continues to adapt its immigration strategy to address the evolving labor market and social demands. Meanwhile, Express Entry remains vital for eligible candidates to achieve their dreams of becoming part of Canadian society.
